We Got One!: Opening a Two-Player Starter

It was an unseasonably warm, yet otherwise unremarkable day when I got the call.

“Wanna see something cool?” the voice on the other end asked.

“Sure.” I replied. Why not, I thought to myself. What else was I doing?

“FFG sent us some Starters to demo the game.”

I didn’t need to ask which game. I knew. We all knew. I immediately ended the call, grabbed my keys and jacket, and hit the door. It was time. Finally!

Ok, that may all be a little overdramatic, but let’s not lose sight of the important piece of news. One of our friendly local game stores received some Star Wars: Unlimited Starter Decks with which to demo the game. They were going to crack them open to get them ready to play. I wanted to be there when they did.

First things first: The box is pretty hefty for its $34.99 MSRP price point. Two full decks, tokens (such as they are), two tuckboxes, and the standard TCG accoutrement like starter player zones and quickstart instructions.

But how are the cards? They are good. It wasn’t like as if the heavens opened up and a voice from on high called down once my hand grazed the blessed cardstock for the first time, but the quality is exactly what I expect and want from a TCG. I expect these to hold up well to sleeving and shuffling. The included tokens are a bit more… on the flimsy side. Look, that’s not the main event. No one buys a starter for the tokens. They will get you through a demo game or three, but you are going to want to upgrade or switch to dice. The tuck boxes are actually pretty cool. I always enjoy a neat little tuck box. And soon I’ll have two.

At the end of the day, there isn’t too much else to tell. Getting to see the actual product in person for the first time really brings home how close we are to launch. Sure, I’ve gotten to participate in demos, but here is the actual thing. It really reinforces my decision to try and attend Prerelease events all three days of the big Prerelease weekend coming up soon!

How’s everyone else holding up? What are you doing until release day? How can you even stand it? Let us know, and keep checking back with SWUHarvest.com for more news and nonsense about everyone’s favorite upcoming TCG set in a galaxy far, far away.
